This my family archive of skills. If you want to get to the Needle Patterns Start Page, Click here. and promote your self-sufficiency with Skills getting lost in the consumerist shuffle.
NOTES on Tension/Gauge: If your tension is too tight on one set of needles and you have too many stitches to the inch, change to larger needles. If it is too loose and you have too few stitches to the inch, change smaller needles. You must remember to alter the needle size given wherever instructions call for a larger needle if your tension is too tight and and small one if your tension is too loose. This point is vital, if you want any patterns to fit properly when completed.

DIRNDYL SKIRT, EMBROIDERED ** This delightful knitted overdress has a Swiss look about it, and is a pretty way to use embroidery on knitting. Work the flower sprays in bright colours, tapering off to a budded stem at the shoulder. Use long and short stitch on the metals. When knitting is used as a base for embroidery, the usual methods of transferring embroidery designs to fabric cannot be applied and it becomes necessary to use an alternative method; so, trace 6the design onto tissue or tracing paper and tack the actual tracing securely onto the garment. Embroider over the paper, cutting away the surplus paper as the design is worked. The paper under the embroidery can later be eased out with a sharp needle or pin between the stitches.
